Austin Reed opened his first men’s tailoring store in 1900 in Fenchurch Street, London, having learnt “tricks of the trade” from American retailers and manufacturers. During the 1920’s the business opened shops across UK dedicated to tailoring, ready-to-wear clothing and grooming. The Liverpool shop was located in St George’s Crescent at the end of Castle Street/top of Lord Street. Joe Passalique buys a new shirt from the shop in which is probably based on Lowry's own shopping experience (
Goya The Obscure Pg. 270).
