7 Rue Antoine-Chantin, Paris
Juilan Trevelyan told Jan Gabrial about a flat at this address for her and Lowry to live in Paris in December 1933. The flat was occupied by Kathleen Coyle, the Irish writer who vacated the flat on January 3rd 1934; " 7 rue Antoine-Chantin offered us a pretty fireplace, a skylight, a lift, a bath, and two rooms with handsome furnishings." (Jan Gabrial Inside The Volcano Pg. 38). The flat was owned by a Mme. Guerzoni costing the Lowry's 42 dollars per month.
Lowry wrote several letters from this address to Jan after she had left for America in April 1934 - 2 were published in the Collected Letters Volume dated April and May 1934.
Jan related that Lowry neglected to pay his utility bills during this period due to drunkenness. She also says that he damaged the flat which invoked both demands from Madame Guerzoni's solicitors and his father's ire. (Jan Gabrial Inside The Volcano Pg. 59).
