The Musée du Louvre or simply the Louvre. A central landmark of Paris, France, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement (district).

Lowry probably first saw or visited the museum on his visit to Paris in 1926 with his school The Leys for a hockey tournament though he would have possibly seen it many times during his 1933-34 stay in the city; "and we see the Louvre across the river, dappled light beneath the plane trees, a barge going downstream." (
