Rue de Contentin 32bis, Paris

Jan Gabrial looked at the possibility of renting an apartment here in December 1933 for her and Lowry to live in. She had noted the apartment on a list from the American Students and Artists Club; "I discovered Rue de Contentin 32bis. This belonged to Ben Waring, an early Paris date, and recalling the view and its stark black-and-white chic, I approached it hopefully. (Jan Gabrial Inside The Volcano Pg. 37). She was unable to settle on a rent with a German couple who occupied the flat.
