Howell's Bookshop, Castle Street, Liverpool



Located at 46 Castle Street in 1927. Joe Passalique settles his account there after returning from sea in the short story 'Goya The Obscure' (Pg. 271). Possibly based on Lowry's own experiences.

The shop had been located at 83 Church Street as can be seen from the extract below of Liverpool bookshops in 1921 from the Literary Year book whose editorial offices where located at 67 Dale Street, Liverpool:
