Morgan Roberts' Osteopathy and Manipulative Treatment

Brighton Street at Junction with Church Street on right
Lowry makes reference to the above business in his novel Ultramarine; "the one figure now drifts slowly under the grainy sky past Morgan Roberts' Osteopathy and Manipulative Treatment and the children's playground on the left and into Brighton Road again." (Pg. 132).

In 1930, John Roberts an oesteopathist was located at 31 Church Street, Egremont (Kelly's Directory) which fits the topography of Ultramarine - though Lowry refers to Brighton Road instead of the street which Church Street joins at King Street in Egremont.  Lowry may have sought treatment or possibly his brother Wilfrid who played rugby.
